Veterinary roles we recruit

Who does your practice
need to hire?

Choose the recruitment service for your vacancy, from a general-practice associate to a specialist or multi-hospital leader.

For Milwaukee veterinary employers

One metro, several counties.
Specific hospital assignments.

A Bay View associate role, a Waukesha County medical director search and a Mequon specialist appointment need different briefs. Start with the hospital address, county, clinical resources and schedule, then agree the search with BEGHR.

Associate veterinarians

Specify independent procedures, appointment capacity and doctor overlap. If recruiting a new graduate, name the mentor and protect teaching time; Wisconsin licenses a recent graduate by examination after the NAVLE and the state exam.

Plan an associate search →

Specialist and emergency appointments

Define the discipline, required credentials, shift pattern and resources already available. Explain referral communication, overnight staffing and inpatient handover, and name the certified technicians who monitor anesthesia.

Scope a specialist role →

Medical and regional leadership

List the hospitals and decision authority. Separate clinical workload from protected time for coaching, clinical standards and team development, and set out how delegation to technicians is supervised each day.

Define a medical director role →

Put the hospital address, county and site details in the brief.

Use the actual work address, the county and any additional facilities. Do not present a Kenosha or West Bend vacancy as interchangeable with a Milwaukee neighborhood hospital. A rotating role should state which days belong to which site and whether movement between sites happens between working days or during a clinical shift.

Keep one clear decision process.

Choose the clinical and operational interviewers, confirm the employer-approved package and identify who can authorize an offer. Use the same role-related criteria for every candidate and give one person responsibility for feedback. Confirm the candidate’s Wisconsin license status before a start date is set. Review the hiring brief and candidate scorecard before outreach.

Choose the service that matches the vacancy.

This is permanent placement for employers. Your practice hires the selected candidate directly. An immediate relief shift needs a separate arrangement; this service does not promise a locum available today. Job seekers can start with BEGHR’s veterinary placement page; the pricing form here is for employer inquiries.

Milwaukee veterinary hiring context for employers

The Wisconsin Veterinary Examining Board, which is attached to the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection, states that veterinarians must complete 30 hours of continuing education in each two-year period and renew before December 31 of every odd-numbered year, with an exemption at the first renewal only. Its application page describes licensure by examination, by endorsement and by Board review, its application instructions require an examination on Wisconsin state laws and rules, and the instructions describe a nonrenewable temporary permit for applicants awaiting first exam results. Wisconsin certifies technicians as Certified Veterinary Technicians through an accredited program or two years of on-the-job training, and the Board’s delegation FAQ sets which services technicians and assistants may perform and what supervision the veterinarian provides. The Wisconsin Veterinary Medical Association states that its continuing education events are open to entire clinic teams, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison course guide says its School of Veterinary Medicine awards a four-year Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. O*NET OnLine, citing Bureau of Labor Statistics 2025 wage data, lists a median annual wage for veterinarians in the Milwaukee-Waukesha area above the Wisconsin median and below the national median, with Racine-Mount Pleasant and Kenosha medians above Wisconsin’s and below Milwaukee-Waukesha’s, and a Milwaukee-Waukesha median for veterinary technicians above both the Wisconsin and national medians. The same state rules apply to every Milwaukee employer, so confirm them before the Milwaukee search starts.

  • Continuing education support: the Board requires 30 hours every two years, at least 25 of them on scientific topics, so state the paid time and course fees the practice covers.
  • Licensing and start date: every route to a Wisconsin license includes the examination on state laws and rules, and the Board says to allow up to 30 days for that process, so keep the start date separate from the license date.
  • Delegation rules: Wisconsin’s rule VE 1.44 lists the services technicians and assistants may receive and the supervision each requires, so list the tasks the practice delegates and who supervises them.
  • Clinic ownership: the Board says there is no explicit prohibition on non-veterinarian ownership and recommends a Wisconsin licensed Chief Medical Officer who controls medical protocols, so name that doctor in the brief.
  • Hospital type: say whether the role sits in general practice, emergency care or specialty referral, because emergency and specialty hospitals in southeastern Wisconsin describe their scope on their own sites.

Market context is attributed to Wisconsin Veterinary Examining Board (DATCP), Wisconsin veterinary continuing education, Wisconsin veterinary credential renewal, Wisconsin veterinary medicine license application process, Wisconsin license application instructions (DAH-VEB-005), Wisconsin veterinary technician certification process, Wisconsin Veterinary Examining Board FAQ, Wisconsin FAQ on delegation of veterinary medical services, Wisconsin Veterinary Medical Association about page, University of Wisconsin-Madison DVM program, O*NET OnLine veterinarian wages by area and O*NET OnLine veterinary technician wages by area. These are third-party and state sources, not BEGHR claims.

Plan Wisconsin credential checks before the start date.

Use the Wisconsin Veterinary Examining Board credential holder lists for the relevant professional record. Wisconsin licenses veterinarians and certifies veterinary technicians through the Veterinary Examining Board, which is attached to the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection, and the Board publishes lists of current and previous credential holders. Assign a person to check each name and credential against those lists, record the verification date and resolve questions with the Board. Check any additional specialty credentials required by the employer with the issuing organization.

For a candidate moving from another state, review the Wisconsin veterinary medicine license application process. Do not treat an out-of-state license or a preferred start date as confirmation that Wisconsin requirements are satisfied. Wisconsin requires an examination on state laws and rules, and an applicant licensed elsewhere must arrange verification from every jurisdiction where a credential has been held. The Board determines eligibility and timing; BEGHR does not issue licenses.

For continuing education, renewal and technician rules, see the Wisconsin veterinary continuing education requirements and the credential renewal page and the technician certification process.

Veterinary recruitment coverage

Milwaukee and
surrounding communities.

A Milwaukee veterinary search works best when the street address and county come before the city label. The City of Milwaukee spans three counties, its neighborhoods are separate workplaces from the suburbs in Milwaukee, Waukesha, Ozaukee, Washington, Racine and Kenosha counties, and each suburb has its own government. Business Executive Group uses the employer’s role, schedule and location to scope a permanent search.

Name the street address, municipality and county, and keep City of Milwaukee neighborhoods separate from suburban cities and villages. The Census Bureau lists the City of Milwaukee in Milwaukee, Washington and Waukesha counties, and it lists both a city and a village for Waukesha and for Pewaukee. The Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission describes a seven-county region with 29 cities, 67 villages and 50 towns. Coverage on this site is limited to Wisconsin; a hospital in Illinois falls under a different licensing authority.

Milwaukee neighborhoods

The City of Milwaukee’s Department of City Development defines 190 neighborhood districts for the entire city, and its Neighborhoods layer says they do not necessarily represent neighborhood association boundaries. Historic Third Ward, Walker’s Point, Bay View, Riverwest, Washington Heights and Sherman Park are separate names in that layer, and the layer lists the east side as Lower East Side and Upper East Side. The Census Bureau lists the City of Milwaukee in Milwaukee, Washington and Waukesha counties, so give the street address and the county as well as the neighborhood.

Milwaukee County suburbs

Wauwatosa, West Allis, Greenfield, Oak Creek and Franklin are cities, and Shorewood is a village, all in Milwaukee County. Each has its own government and street addresses separate from the City of Milwaukee. The Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission provides animal care and control for the nineteen municipalities of Milwaukee County, but a hospital address still has to name the one municipality it sits in.

Waukesha County

Waukesha, Brookfield, New Berlin, Pewaukee and Oconomowoc are cities, and Menomonee Falls is a village, all in Waukesha County. The Census file also lists a separate Village of Waukesha and a separate Village of Pewaukee, so name the city or the village along with the street address. Wauwatosa, West Allis, Greenfield and Franklin are in Milwaukee County, a different county from their Waukesha County neighbors.

Ozaukee and Washington counties

Mequon and Cedarburg are cities, and Grafton is a village, in Ozaukee County. West Bend is a city, and Germantown is a village, in Washington County. These places lie north and northwest of the City of Milwaukee, which the Census file also lists in Washington County, so treat a Mequon, Cedarburg or Grafton address as an Ozaukee County role and a West Bend or Germantown address as a Washington County role.

Racine and Kenosha counties

Racine and Kenosha are cities south of Milwaukee County, each in its own county. The Census Bureau’s 2025 population estimates list Racine County as the Racine-Mount Pleasant metropolitan area and Kenosha County as the Kenosha area, both separate from the Milwaukee-Waukesha area, so a role in either city is a separate search from a Milwaukee County role. Illinois places across the state line fall under a different licensing authority and are not covered on this site.

Employer questions

Veterinary recruiting questions

Which veterinary positions can Milwaukee employers recruit through BEGHR?

The service covers permanent associate veterinarians, veterinary specialists, emergency DVMs, surgery appointments, medical directors and regional veterinary leaders. Search fit depends on the role, clinical requirements and employer brief. The practice makes the final hiring decision.

Is this for employers hiring veterinarians or for job applications?

This website is for practice owners and employer hiring teams seeking permanent veterinary staff. Its form requests a hiring brief and returns a placement estimate after employer opt-in. It is not an open-jobs directory or a candidate application form.

How does milestone billing work?

Agree the role, estimated fee range, billable milestones and payment terms before the search begins. Recruiting uses an hourly, pay-as-you-go model within the agreed range. BEGHR’s published placement process starts billing after applicants are sent. Invoices follow the agreed cadence, at least monthly during billable service delivery. BEGHR handles client billing and account questions.

Do we pay if a search does not result in a hire?

Milestone billing pays for agreed work as the search progresses, so completed billable milestones may still be payable without a placement. Your client agreement specifies the billing triggers, amounts, due dates and any cancellation terms.

Where can we see our placement price?

Select your role, complete the hiring questions and submit your employer contact details through the pricing form to receive an estimated fee range. BEGHR confirms the role classification, final fee and payment milestones before you engage the service.

How long does placement take?

BEGHR’s placement timeframe is 23–55 days. Timing depends on the role, candidate availability and the employer’s hiring process.

How does BEGHR pricing compare with contingency recruiting?

BEGHR offers placement at typically 50% less than contingency recruiting and 50% off second and subsequent hires for the same role. Use the pricing form for an estimate and confirm your fee and repeat-hire eligibility before starting.

What fill rate does BEGHR report?

BEGHR reports 86% fill rate on active searches across its placement service. This provider-wide figure is not a city-specific or veterinary-only result and does not guarantee an individual hiring outcome.

Who receives my employer inquiry?

Business Executive Group receives your contact information, selected roles, qualification answers, placement estimate and the originating website and page through its existing BEGHR lead intake. This is an employer inquiry, not a candidate job application.

How are placement fees confirmed?

The instant-pricing form uses BEGHR’s role categories and current retail ranges to show an estimate after you submit your employer details. The provider confirms the actual category, scope, payment milestones and commercial terms before a search engagement begins.
